How to Purchase a Domain Name

This is a guide on how to purchase a domain name through GoDaddy.com

You should have already decided on your domain name(s) before purchasing. If you are not sure whether or not they are available you will be notified while performing the domain name search. To help avoid confusion you should choose a domain name that is unique and not likely to be frequently mistaken for other businesses in your same industry.  For other advice on choosing a domain name please contact us for consultation.

Step 1. Checking Availability Through GoDaddy.com

Go Daddy $7.49 .com domains Click the above banner to open up a new window taking you to GoDaddy.com. Start your domain search through their domain name search bar.  This search will result in either the domain name being available or unavailable. If it is unavailable then we will try one of OUR alternatives, not necessarily the ones that are automatically suggested since they may cause confusion. However, take note of what is available as it may be an option. Note: if you are registering multiple domains you may click the "Express Buy" link to the right of the "Go" button.

Step 2. Adding the Domain Name to Your Cart

There will be a confirmation that the domain name desired is available for purchase. To the right click the "add" button to add it to your cart. Below find the "continue to registration" button and click that to proceed. There will be a pop-up box that will try to up-sale you again on purchasing more domain names. It's up to you, but it's generally unnecessary to purchase all top level domains for your name. To proceed click "No Thanks" and the bottom.

Step 3. Enter Registration Information

This is where you will register your new domain name to yourself or business. Simply complete the required fills and select "continue" to proceed with the domain registration process.

Step 4. Registration and Checkout Options

Once again, GoDaddy is going to attempt to up-sale you on everything: multiple year registrations, hosting, email, and domain certifications, etc. Be sure to change registration length to 1 year, as they set it to default at 5 years. In the "select checkout preference" section simply choose "no thanks" and click continue to proceed with the domain name registration.

Step 5. Review your Shopping Cart

Here you will have a chance to review your cart to see if there was anything that was added to it you did not want. At this time the price you should see per domain should be 10.87 or less. If you have a godaddy promo code this is where you would use it. Enter in your godaddy promo code and click the "apply code" button and check to see the reflected price changes in your shopping cart. After you have confirmed the total is correct you may select your payment method and agree to Godaddy's terms of service. Note: Godaddy promo codes do expire, so if the one you tried does not work you may want to contact us for another.

Step 6. Enter Payment Information

To continue your domain registration through GoDaddy.com enter your billing information. Once you fill out the form and confirmed the information entered is correct you may place your order.  You should be receiving an email confirmation shortly that your domain has been successfully registered. Be sure to take note of any user name and passwords, as you will need to login to update your settings to have your domain name access our web servers for your hosting plan with us.

Installation

  1. Unzip and Upload the `visit-site-settings` directory to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress
  3. Use the check box in Personal Options to set your preference.
